With the calendar now turned to October, much of college football is shifting to conference play.

However, there are still a handful of standout non-conference games, including one that looks a lot more enticing than it did two months ago.

On Friday, Syracuse will make the 2,500-mile trip to Las Vegas to face No. 23 UNLV at Allegiant Stadium. It pits one of the ACC's first surprise teams against one of the most exciting and unexpectedly newsworthy teams in all of college football.
