Bexar County records show a woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting on the North Side

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A San Antonio woman was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting at a North Side nightclub last month.

Bexar County records show Katie Laboy, 28, appeared before a district judge about 12:45 p.m. Thursday. The judge set Laboy's bond at $200,000 before she was booked into the Bexar County Adult Jail Thursday evening.

According to Laboy's affidavit, authorities are linking her and another man, 24-year-old Francisco Alejandro Valbuena Tabares, to the fatal Sept. 21 shooting at the Manhattan nightclub in the 3800 block of Blanco Road.

In their initial report in September, San Antonio police said a verbal altercation between a group of people outside the nightclub turned physical. Officials said a previously unknown suspect fired multiple shots at a 22-year-old man, later identified as Alix Segundo Medina-Rodriguez. Medina-Rodriguez was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The account of events in the October affidavit is based on surveillance video that authorities say captured the shooting at the time it occurred. According to the affidavit, the video showed Laboy and Valbuena Tabares leaving the nightclub. Valbuena Tabares walked up to Medina-Rodriguez and his group of friends while Laboy was about four parking spaces away from them.

Moments later, Valbuena Tabares, Medina-Rodriguez and his friends appeared to continue talking while surveillance video showed Laboy walking toward the group with a gun in his back, the affidavit said.

Court documents citing surveillance video said Medina-Rodriguez punched Valbuena Tabares, causing him to fall to the ground. Laboy, who initially reached for the weapon at the time of the blow, instead tried to get Valbuena Tabares back to his feet. Meanwhile, friends of Medina-Rodriguez tried to pull him away to prevent further escalation, the documents say.

As most of the crowd outside the nightclub began to disperse, surveillance video showed Laboy pulling out the gun, holstering it and pointing it at those dispersing. The affidavit states that Valbuena Tabares then took the gun from Laboy and pointed it at Medina-Rodriguez. After Medina-Rodriguez approached Valbuena Tabares, Valbuena Tabares pulled the trigger, court records show.

Documents show a second, unidentified person was hit by a bullet in the chest but survived his injuries.

The affidavit also outlined a request for an arrest warrant against Valbuena Tabares. If arrested, the 24-year-old would also be charged with murder, according to court documents.

According to the affidavit, Laboy was interviewed by police after the shooting. Officers accused Laboy of lying to investigators when she told them she only knew the shooter's first name but did not know him personally.

Laboy was also accused of withholding information from police that could have helped officers find Valbuena Tabares, the affidavit said.

It is unclear whether additional charges will be filed against Laboy and Valbuena Tabares.
