Report: The Warriors passed on recruiting Bronny to respect LeBron's wishes

The Golden State Warriors debated selecting former USC guard Bronny James with the 52nd pick of June's draft, but declined to do so to “respect the wishes” of his father, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, shared Sources ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

According to Shelburne, Golden State had the 19-year-old on its draft board and liked the younger James' skills. Ultimately, the Warriors passed on him and selected Boston College big man Quinten Post, allowing the Lakers to select James with the 55th pick.

The Warriors had reportedly shown interest in the elder James and attempted to acquire him at the February trade deadline, but neither LeBron nor the Lakers were interested in the blockbuster deal.

In L.A., LeBron and Bronny squared off in training camp – the rookie hit a triple against his father on Wednesday, Lakers big man Anthony Davis told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. James responded with a faceoff ball layup over a defender while Bronny hit another three-pointer over Austin Reaves.

The Lakers and Warriors meet twice in the preseason before Golden State hosts Los Angeles on Christmas.
