Video shows Plano home invasion suspect fatally shot by police – NBC Chicago

Authorities in suburban Kendall County released body camera footage Friday showing the fatal shooting of a suspect who allegedly shot a man before leading police on a chase and opening fire on officers, law enforcement authorities said.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office and the Plano Police Department have jointly released 911 calls and portions of officers' body camera videos from the series of incidents on Sept. 27. The 6-minute, 44-second video and audio clips include portions of two 911 calls. including one from Russell Novak, who made a call to report a possible home invasion in the 3800 block of Pratt Court at 6:39 p.m.

Novak tells a dispatcher that some of his weapons were missing and he noticed signs of forced entry in his apartment. Just as the dispatcher explains that officers will respond, Novak starts screaming and the line goes silent. Around the same time, another person called 911 and reported shots fired in the area.

The video then shows the point of view of the first Plano police officer who responded to the 911 call about a possible home invasion. As he approaches the residence, a vehicle backs out of the garage, prompting the officer to yell, “Hey police, pull over!” Stop!”

The footage then shows the suspect leading officers on a chase that went through Yorkville and Oswego before ending in Aurora. The pursuit later ends near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Eola Road, where the suspect exits the vehicle brandishing a rifle, video shows. The suspect begins pointing the gun at the responding officers, prompting the officers to shoot and fire about a dozen shots.

The gunman appears to have fired at least one shot at police.

The suspect falls to the ground after suffering an apparent gunshot wound, as seen in the footage. He was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead. The suspect had not been identified by authorities as of Friday evening.

A Kendall County sheriff's deputy and a Plano police officer both fired their weapons, authorities said.

Authorities say the officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Taskforce.
