AURORA, Ill. (WLS) — The 911 calls and police body camera footage linked to a fatal police shooting and murder in the western suburbs last week have been released.

The family of a 70-year-old murder victim told ABC7 that the victim's adult son was the suspect in the fatal shooting in Plano on Sept. 27, who later died in the officer-involved shooting in Aurora.

A man called 911 from Plano after noticing some of his personal weapons missing from his home, according to audio recordings released Friday. A few moments later, the homeowner's screams and a loud bang were heard. That's when 70-year-old Russell Novak was shot, according to police.

A Plano police officer arrived at the home as someone backed a vehicle out of the garage. Another officer spotted the suspect and began following the vehicle.

The hunt will continue for quite a while. From Plano, officers followed the suspect to Yorkville, Oswego and then to Aurora, where they ended at the intersection of Eola Road and Route 34.

That's when the suspect got out of the car with a gun in his hand, police body camera footage shows.

Police said the suspect pointed his gun at both a Plano police officer and a Kendall County deputy. They returned fire and the suspect later died.

The Illinois State Police are still investigating the case.
