Football High Live: Scores, updates from Friday’s Week 7 HS football games

The top two teams in Class 7A meet tonight in Phenix City.

No. 1 and reigning state champ Central-Phenix City hosts No. 2 Auburn in a battle of Region 2 unbeatens. That game highlights a night of key region games as we head into the second half of the season and teams jockey for playoff spots and positioning.

9:50 PM, Aggies keep rolling: Class 4A No. 1 Jackson rolled over previously undefeated St. Michael 55-16. Landon Duckworth passed for 339 yards and 5 TDs. EJ Crowell rushed for 135 yards and 3 TDs on just 10 carries.

9:42 PM, Defending champs go down: Class 7A No. 2 Auburn went on the road and knocked off No. 1 Central-Phenix 38-33. The Red Devils had won 18 straight, including last season’s 21-19 win over Thompson in the state title game.

9:33 PM, Briarwood Christian knocks off Corner, more finals: Briarwood Christian handed Class 5A No. 7 Corner its first loss of the season, beating the Yellow Jackets 31-6 on the road. 9:30 PM, No. 1 is in trouble: Auburn, ranked No. 2 in Class 7A, leads top-ranked Central-Phenix City 38-27 with 6:28 left in the game after an Omar Mabson 14-yard TD run. Oxford is blanking Pell City 20-0 with 9:49 left in the fourth. Austin beat Huntsville 38-13.

9:25 PM, More finals – and one not-so-final: Opelia beat Dothan 28-7. Second-ranked Class 3A Mars Hill Bible beat Rogers 42-7 to move to 6-0 on the year and 4-0 in Region 7 play. Homewood beat Gardendale 23-7 to stay undefeated in 6A, Region 5 play. The Patriots are 6-1 and 4-0 with an open date next week before they host Parker. Class 2A No. 5 Cottonwood beat Geneva County 52-20. Tuscaloosa Academy beat Vincent 35-21 on the road to improve to 6-0 and drop the Yellow Jackets to 5-1. Daphne leads Davidson 34-13 with 4 minutes left in a 7A, Region 1 game.

9:15 PM, Clay-Chalkville leads after three: The No. 2 Cougars are up 21-14 at home over Mountain Brook as Aaron Frye has three rushing TDs, from 2, 7 and 8 yards. Demopolis defeated Shelby County 35-8. Jacksonville topped Springville 44-14. North Jackson leads Madison Academy 18-12 in the fourth. Scottsboro is up 40-7 over Brewer, also in the final period. Dadeville leads Lee-Scott 13-3 with 5:16 left in the game. Randolph 56, DAR 21 with 6 minutes to go. Hoover leads Oak Mountain 28-10 with 46 seconds remaining in the game.

9:10 PM, Some more scores: Baker leads Robertsdale in another second-half running-clock affair, 47-0. Hartselle finds the end zone as Noah Lee throws to Cain Falciani. The Tigers are tied 7-all with Cullman. Helena leads Benjamin Russell 42-14 with 3:04 left in the third period. Randolph leads DAR 49-14 after three quarters. Vestavia Hills beat Prattville 49-14 in the first meeting of the two teams to improve to 2-4 while the Lions fall to 4-2. With 3:56 left in the third quarter, Muscle Shoals leads Athens 42-18 after a Brogan Gross 10-yard TD pass. Fyffe beat Sylvania 49-17 to bounce back from a 29-2 loss last week at Coosa Christian. The Red Devils are 3-2 while Sylvania had a four-game win streak snapped to fall to 4-2.

9:03 PM, Some scores: Auburn leads Central-Phenix City 31-27 after three periods. Opelika leads Dothan 28-7 with 7:50 left in the game. North Jackson leads Madison Academy 18-9 with 1:27 left in the third quarter. Helena leads Benjamin Russell 42-7 with 3:54 left in the third period. Austin leads Huntsville 38-13 after three quarters. Hewitt-Trussville gets on the board, trails Thompson 15-7 headed into the fourth quarter. Final: Citronell 14, UMS-Wright 7.

8:59 PM, Trojans pulling away: Muscle Shoals, No. 6 in Class 6A, leads 5-0 Athens 42-21 after Natarruean Hampton scores on a 50-yard play. Headed into the final quarter, 6A Cullman leads No. 9 Hartselle 7-0. Hoover leads Oak Mountain 21-3 after three quarters. Tuscaloosa Academy leads Vincent 35-14 headed into the fourth quarter. Thompson’s Trent Seaborn hits Anquon Fegans for a 27-yard touchdown to push Thompson’s lead over Hewitt-Trussville to 15-0 midway through the third at Thompson. UMS-Wright’s Bo Wills scores on a 1-yard run with 2:28 left to narrow Citronelle’s lead to 14-7. Our first final: Vigor 40, Elberta 0. The No. 4 5A Wolves remain unbeaten.

8:52 PM, Aggies are rolling: No. 1 Class 4A Jackson is leading No. 6. St. Michael 41-10 after EJ Crowell was almost tackled for a safety on the second-half kickoff, but he broke away and turned it into a touchdown. Citronelle leads UMS-Wright 14-0 early in the final quarter and Fairhope is beating Foley 30-7 in the third. Vigor leads Elberta 40-0 with a running clock in the second half. Helena is up 42-7 over Benjamin Russell in the third.

8:45 PM, Spain Park working to stay perfect: The Class 6A, No. 3 Jaguars lead Pelham 28-7 with 11:18 left in the third period. Spain Park is 5-0. Randolph leads DAR 35-14 with 7:33 left in the third period in a Class 4A, Region 8 game at Grant. Corner narrows Briarwood Christian’s lead to 17-6 with 26 seconds left in the third period on a Spencer Unruh 2-yard TD run. Austin leads Huntsville 38-13 with 5:07 left in the third quarter.

8:36 PM, Central-Phenix City breaks on top: The 7A No. 1 Red Devils got a 30-yard touchdown run from Tristan Williams to pull ahead of No. 2 Auburn 27-21 with 8:50 left in the third period. Also, Piedmont leads Locust Fork 35-0 at the half. No. 6 Vincent gets on the board, but trails No. 4 Tuscaloosa Academy 35-7 at home in a 2A, Region 5 game.

8:30 PM, No. 1 T.R. Miller whipping Cottage Hill: The 6-0 Tigers lead 28-7 on the road at the half. Nathan Commander threw a 21-yard TD pass to Elijah Hubbard and Myles Johnson has a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown. Pensacola Catholic leads Mobile Christian 21-6 at the half. Chelsea scores another TD with 8:46 left in the third period to lead Chilton County 35-0. Clay-Chalkville leads Mountain Brook 14-7 at halftime. Scottsboro leads Brewer 14-7 at the half. Pisgah is up 40-7 over Sand Rock and Gaston leads Section 34-20 at the half.

8:23 PM, Homewood dominating, and more scores: The Patriots lead Gardendale 13-0 at halftime. Homewood has drives of nine, 14, nine and 11 plays thus far and has held the Rockets to less than 40 yards of total offense with one first down and one completed pass. Beauregard leads Holtville 21-0 at the half. Prattville gets on the board with 10:30 left in the third quarter and trails visiting Vestavia Hills 35-7.

8:19 PM, At the half: Oxford leads Pell City 7-0. North Jackson leads Madison Academy 12-3. Westbrook Christian leads Ohatchee 21-12. Coosa Christian is up 43-0 over Cleveland. 8:15 PM, Jaquess Greene is quite efficient: The Muscle Shoals senior has caught three passes in a 6A showdown with Athens tonight. Three catches. Three touchdowns. His latest score was from 59 yards and he’s got 150 yards so far. Muscle Shoals leads 35-21 with 1:17 left in the half. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa leads Tuscaloosa County 14-7 with 5:14 left in the half. Second-ranked 6A Clay-Chalkville and No. 8 Mountain Brook are tied at 7 with 5:47 left in the first half.

8:08 PM, Vestavia Hills on a roll: The 1-4 Rebels are pounding new 7A, Region 3 opponent Prattville 35-0 on the road at the half. James Clemens leads Florence 21-10 late in the opening half. Chandler Dixon hit a school-record 50-yard field goal for the Falcons. Hoover leads Oak Mountain 14-3 at the half. Cottonwood is whipping Geneva County 44-6 at the break. Randolph leads DAR 28-7 at halftime. Austin is up 31-13 at halftime over Huntsville.

8:00 PM, Pisgah pummeling Sand Rock: The top-ranked 2A Eagles lead Sand Rock 40-0 on the road with 3 minutes to play in the first half. Austin has a 31-13 lead on Huntsville with 1:51 left in the half. Citronell leads UMS-Wright 14-0 at the half. Auburn leads Central-Phenix City 21-20 at the half. This is a barn-burner (no pun intended, college Tiger fans).

7:54 PM, Briarwood shocking No. 7 Corner: The Lions, who started the season 0-5 before beating then-No. 4 Leeds last week, are leading the Yellow Jackets 17-0 at the half. Cullman is clinging to a 7-0 advantage at intermission over Hartselle. Tuscaloosa Academy, No. 4 in 2A, leads No. 6 Vincent 28-0 late in the first half. Thompson leads high-scoring Hewitt-Trussville 2-0 after linebacker Kevin Davis records a safety. Elijah Johnson puts Benjamin Russell on the board on a quarterback scramble, but the Wildcats trail Helena 35-7 with 6:28 left in the half.

7:49 PM, Auburn again: The Tigers scored on a 76-yard pass from Jackson Kilgore to Peyton Plott to push Auburn up 21-13 at Central-Phenix City. Big game atop the 7A standings.

7:45 PM, No. 1 Jackson scores on a long one: The Class 4A front-running Aggies go up 20-10 on No. 6 St. Michael thanks to a 78-yard scoring pass to Keeyun Chapman. Vestavia Hills leads Prattville 21-0 with 11:10 left in the first half in a 7A, Region 3 contest after a 4-yard run by Bruce Littleton. Southeastern leads Susan Moore 14-0 after one quarter. Hoover leads Oak Mountain 14-0 with 6:13 left in the half. Helena leads 35-0 on a TD pass from Nate Ferguson to Torrey Ward. Austin leads Huntsville 24-13 midway through the second period.

7:37 PM, Helena on a roll: The Huskies lead Benjamin Russell 28-0 with 17 seconds left in the first quarter after Kevin Pinkard took a punt about 60 yards for a TD. So far, a happy homecoming for Helena. Then, Josh Griffin jumped on a muffed kickoff return by the Wildcats to set up Helena inside the 15-yard-line. Jacoby Studimire scored his first TD of the season to capitalize on the miscue. Elsewhere, Cullman leads Hartselle 7-0 with 10:29 to go in the half. Austin is back on top of Huntsville, 171- with 7:59 left in the second quarter.

7:34 PM, Passing clinic in Muscle Shoals: Samuel Clemmons gets his third touchdown pass – this one from 25 yards to Jaquess Greene (his second on the night) – to put the 6A No. 6 Trojans (4-1) on top of 5-0 Athens 21-14 with 2:06 left in the first quarter. Huntsville has scored to go ahead of Austin 13-10 with 10:05 left in the half.

7:30 PM, It’s No. 2 on top: Auburn, the second-ranked team in Class 7A, leads No. 1 Central-Phenix City 14-6 with 2:47 left in the opening period at Phenix City. Valley leads Sylacauga 7-0 after one period. Class 3A No. 3 Piedmont is on top of Locust Fork 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Nate Ferguson scored on a 30-yard QB keeper to put Helena up 14-0 on Benjamin Russell. Austin leads Huntsville 10-6 after one.

7:28 PM, Special play from special teams: Mobile Christian answered Pensacola Catholic’s opening drive touchdown with PJ Brown taking the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a score, but the PAT was blocked. Catholic leads 7-6. Helena leads Benjamin Russell 7-0 with 4:30 to play in the first.

7:22 PM, Black Bears get a field goal – plus more early scores: Austin leads Huntsville 10-6 at home with 3:57 to go in the first quarter. Class 2A No. 4 Tuscaloosa Academy is up 14-0 at No. 6 Vincent with 16 seconds left in the first period. Athens QB Brogan Gross connects with James Newby for a 4-yard TD, but the PAT failed so we have a 14-14 game in Muscle Shoals.

7:15 PM, Hoover strikes first and more scores: The seventh-ranked Class 7A Bucs lead 7-0 with 9:04 to play in the opening period at home against Oak Mountain. No. 8 7A Austin leads Huntsville 7-0 with 6:13 left in the opening period. Class 6A No. 10 Homewood leads 7-0 at Gardendale on a 2-yard QB Will Myers run with 7:22 left in the first. North Jackson is up 6-0 on Madison Academy. Gadsden City, No. 7 in 6A, leads Lee-Huntsville 7-0 with 7:44 left in the first period.

7:10 PM, What’d we tell ya? It took Muscle Shoals two plays to answer in this crazy first quarter. The Trojans answered Athens with a 58-yard pass from Samuel Clemmons – who is 2-for-2 for 124 yards and two touchdowns – to Ezra Fowler for a score. Muscle Shoals 14, Athens 8.

7:08 PM, Are you kidding? Xavier Edwards scored on a 52-yard run and a 2-point conversion gives visiting Athens an 8-7 lead at Muscle Shoals. Pay attention, scoreboard operator. It looks like it’s going to be a busy night.

7:03 PM, Whew! That was fast: Jaquess Greene took a pass from Samuel Clemmons 66 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game to give Muscle Shoals a 7-0 lead over Athens.
