Three Nepalese nationals were injured in an incident at the Mexico-Guatemala border

All 11 Nepalese nationals who were in the vehicle that came under fire from Mexican security forces near the Guatemala-Mexico border on October 2 are alive, the Nepalese embassy in Washington DC said.

However, three of the Nepalese nationals on board the vehicle were injured in the firing by Mexican forces.

“No Nepali citizen was killed in the reported incident,” the embassy statement said.

Following recent media reports, the embassy inquired with the relevant authorities of the Mexican government about the status of Nepalese nationals in the incident at the Mexico-Guatemala border on October 2, it said.

“In the vehicle that was fired upon by Mexican security forces, there were a total of 11 Nepalese nationals, three of whom were injured and are currently receiving treatment, and all 11 Nepalese nationals are currently in custody by Mexican immigration authorities,” the wrote Message on X on Saturday morning.

The embassy is in contact with the relevant Mexican authorities and will keep the incident updated with further relevant information, it said.

The embassy said it had inquired and confirmed their status with relevant authorities following recent media reports of the death of a Nepalese national in the border shootout.

Earlier, international news agency Reuters reported that six migrants died after Mexican soldiers shot at a group of 33 migrants traveling in a van that was trying to evade a military patrol.

According to the news agency, another ten migrants were injured in the incident on Tuesday evening. The group included people of Egyptian, Nepalese, Cuban, Indian and Pakistani nationality, although the statement at the time did not specify the nationality of the deceased.
