Police video shows a man shooting at officers after a pursuit through Chicago's western suburbs

AURORA, Ill. (CBS) – Plano, Illinois police released bodycam and dashcam video of a chase Friday Exchange of shots with officers This caused the death of a man last week.

On Friday, September 27, at 6:45 p.m., Kendall County Sheriff's deputies were called to assist Plano police officers after a Report of a home invasion in the 3800 block of Pratt Court in Plano.

Upon arrival, Plano officers saw a green Ford Bronco Sport pulling out of the garage of the home where the burglary had been reported. On the bodycam video, the officer can be heard commanding the driver to stop with his gun drawn.

But the driver doesn't stop, but runs haphazardly across the lawn until he hits the road. The next video clip shows a chase along US Route 34 or Ogden Avenue, through Yorkville and Oswego and finally into Aurora.

Meanwhile, police learned that a man named Russell Novak, 70, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside the Plano home – and died as a result of his injuries. Police concluded that the suspect they were pursuing could be armed and dangerous.

When the Ford Bronco reached Eola Road in Aurora, it turned south – then made a U-turn at Keating Drive to head back to Route 34. At that point, the Bronco entered the left turn lane, police said.

The Dascham video shows the driver getting out of the car in the left turning lane with his long gun raised. The driver shoots at the officers and the officers return fire as the driver falls to the ground.

Police said a Plano officer and a Kendall County sheriff's deputy shot and struck the driver. Shortly afterwards, officers rendered assistance to the driver.

The incident occurred in the DuPage County neighborhood of Aurora, and therefore the results of an Illinois State Police investigation will be reviewed by the DuPage County District Attorney's Office, Plano police said.
