Propane gas leak leads to response to San Carlos Park fire

A leak in a 1,000-gallon propane tank triggered firefighters' response Friday morning and initially led to evacuations until officials shut off the power, fire officials say.

San Carlos Park Fire spokesman Alexis McLellan said firefighters were dispatched around 9:20 a.m. Friday to the 7000 block of Spotted Fawn Court in The Forest, a gated community off U.S. 41.

McLellan said crews arrived to find a leaking 1,000-gallon propane tank that was powered by underground energy.

She said the task force immediately called for the power to be shut down, adding that Florida Power & Light officials were working to isolate the outage to the immediate area.

The leak caused no injuries, McLellan said, adding that officers cleared the scene about 10:45 a.m

McLellan said Hurricane Helene did not cause the propane leak.
