Man wanted in Asheville stabbing has been arrested

Police in Asheville, North Carolina, said Friday evening that a man wanted in a fatal stabbing has been arrested. Rick Rice of the Asheville Police Department said Raqwean Jarrel Savage, 27, is charged with first-degree murder and intentional assault with a deadly weapon. The crime was reported just after 7 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Short Michigan Avenue in west Asheville said Rice previously. He said when officers arrived they found one man dead from his injuries and another with knife wounds up to his neck. The second victim was taken to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries. There was no update on his condition. A $10,000 reward was offered Friday for information leading to Savage's arrest. Rice could not confirm whether the reward was paid out in this case, but said, “The Asheville Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security Investigations, our own drone team pilots and those in the community who bravely have come forward with information.”

The crime was reported just after 7 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Short Michigan Avenue in West Asheville, Rice previously said.

He said when officers arrived they found one man dead from his injuries and another with knife wounds to the neck.

The second victim was taken to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries. There was no update on his condition.

A $10,000 reward was offered Friday for information leading to Savage's arrest.

Rice could not confirm whether the reward was given in this case, but said:
