Bus footage of the incident at Warsaw Elementary School is considered unrecoverable

On Monday, September 16, four-year-old Amelia Tibbits was left unattended on a school bus for over two hours. After this incident, both the Warsaw School District and the family were unable to get the full story of what happened without seeing the bus video.

KHQA learned that the bus Tibbits was on was loaned to the school district by Midwest Transit Equipment. The special bus was used while the district awaits the arrival of new buses.

Midwest Transit Equipment buses utilize 247 Security, Inc. for video equipment and recording software. KHQA submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for a copy of the recording and received a statement in response that included the following:

“The District has contacted 247 Security, Inc. to secure footage from the date and time in question; However, 247 Security, Inc. has stated that the video cannot be recovered from their system.”

Because there is currently no video for everyone to see, both the family and the school district cannot clearly see how Amelia was left on the bus by the bus driver.

KHQA plans to investigate the story further to find out how the video got lost.
