An Ohio woman's viral videos of a carpet buried in her yard led to a search for a possible body

An Ohio woman shared videos on her TikTok account expressing fears that a body may have been buried in her yard, prompting a police investigation into her property.

Katie Santry first shared a video earlier this week showing her and her family digging up a carpet buried in the yard of their Columbus home. She then made videos in which she informed her followers about the situation and, among other things, called the police to her home.

The videos received millions of views and many people speculated in their comments about why there would be a rug buried in their yard.

Columbus police responded to the property later in the week to investigate but did not find a body, according to Fox 59.

Santry described the events in a TikTok video as “the most absurd, crazy experience of my life.”

The investigation, which involved K-9 units and an excavation, was completed Friday afternoon, and police collected pieces of carpet buried in the yard.

“All pieces tested negative for human or animal remains and there are currently no plans for further testing,” police said.

An official said that when constructing houses, it was common practice to bury items instead of moving them to save effort. The official said K-9 units are not always accurate, but when they alert them to a location, police have to dig to confirm if something is there.

It's also possible that someone suffered something as small as a nosebleed years ago that the dogs noticed, an official said.

Santry detailed her first call to the police in several videos. Officers who went to her home said at the time they had no plans to investigate further.

“The whole world told me to let the police come,” Santry said. “When I called the police and asked them, 'Hey, would you like to come to my house to look at a carpet?' I felt crazy.”

In a video released Thursday, Santry said homicide detectives called her and said they would send investigators out with cadaver dogs. Later that day, she said in a video that two different cadaver dogs sat at the hole on two different attempts.
