Regian Eersel regains the lightweight kickboxing world title with a redemption victory over Alexis Nicolas

You can fool Regian “The Immortal” Eersel once, but you can’t fool him twice.

The Surinamese superstar defeated his old foe Alexis “Barboza” Nicolas by unanimous decision in the main event of ONE Fight Night 25 on Prime Video, reclaiming the ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title on Friday, and was ranked in US primetime on Friday, November 11 October, once again the king of two sports 4.

Early on, Eersel stalked Nicolas in the ring at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, triggering a flurry of attacks with his jab.

From the outside, the Sityodtong Amsterdam gym representative flicked his left hand in front of Nicolas and followed him with low kicks, body strikes and his trademark knee jumps.

The Frenchman fended off the devastating blows without buckling under the pressure, and in the middle of the fight he began to attack with the same ferocity. The 26-year-old launched high kicks and spinning attacks with both fists and feet to slow down Eersel, but the latter only sped up the action.

In the championship rounds, “The Immortal” laid out the rest of his game plan. That plan included staying as close to Nicolas as possible and wearing him down with low kicks. This tactic worked as all three judges awarded Eersel the world title.

Not only did the 31-year-old reclaim the lightweight kickboxing belt that came with his lightweight Muay Thai gold, but he also increased his professional record to 62-5 and handed Nicolas the only loss of his 25-fight career.
