Biltmore Estate was temporarily closed after Helene suffered damage

ASHEVILLE, NC (WBTV) – As much of western North Carolina continues to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Helene, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is no exception.

In one Update shared on ThursdayAccording to the estate, damage was spread across buildings and grounds on the 8,000-acre property.

Biltmore said the iconic 175,000-square-foot home sustained “minimal or no damage,” as did the winery, conservatory, hotels and gardens. However, significant flooding and subsequent damage occurred at the Biltmore entrance, farm, and other buildings. Some animals died, but the estate said “the vast majority are safe and will be accounted for.”

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of concern for our region as communities face the consequences of this storm,” the property wrote on Facebook. “Like all of our neighbors who have experienced the impact of Helene, we are working on our plans for a rapid recovery and look forward to welcoming our guests to this region as soon as it is safe to do so.”

In an update posted at Biltmore's websiteThe property said it will remain closed to guests until at least October 15.

The estate said some of its roads were being cleared so repairs could begin. Find information about staff, refunds and cancellations, community resources and more Here.
