2 people arrested after high speed chase on Dan Ryan Expressway

Two people are in custody after a crash involving a west suburban Downers Grove police officer sparked a high-speed chase Friday afternoon.

The two were identified as suspects in a recent home invasion involving a Nissan Rogue in Downers Grove, Downers Grove Police Chief Mike DeVries wrote in an email to the Sun-Times. They were also linked to separate residential burglaries in unincorporated Kane County and Naperville counties early Friday, according to DeVries.

Authorities located the suspects in the parking lot of the White Castle at West Addison Street and North Kedzie Avenue in Irving Park. While officers attempted to take them into custody, the suspects fled in the Nissan Rogue and struck an on-duty Downers Grove officer, DeVries said. The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

The suspects, who were traveling in a Nissan Rogue, fled the scene and drove onto the Dan Ryan Expressway. They changed vehicles at 31st Street on the Dan Ryan Expressway and got into a Dodge minivan.

Chicago police followed the suspects to the 7100 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Grand Crossing and arrested them, police said.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, one person involved in the accident was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Her condition was unknown.

The Nissan Rogue was later recovered, police said.
