Oregon vs. Michigan State live stream, where to watch, TV channel, prediction, selection, distribution, match odds

The first Big Ten Conference game in Eugene, Oregon, will be played Friday night as No. 6 Oregon hosts Michigan State. The Ducks won last week on the road against new conference colleague UCLA and now have seven games in seven weeks, all against longtime Big Ten incumbents.

Oregon's Big Ten baptism includes a home game against Ohio State and road trips to Maryland and Wisconsin, but the Ducks must first deal with Michigan State. The Spartans started 3-0 but are floundering a bit after losing 38-7 at home to Ohio State last week and falling at Boston College a week earlier. Although Michigan State opened its Big Ten campaign with a win at Maryland, that win on Sept. 7 is the team's last against an FBS opponent.

The matchup also brings some old Pac-12 cattle to the fore, as Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith was the head coach at Oregon State for six years and a former star quarterback for the Beavers. Smith went 2-4 against Oregon as head coach, but both victories were spoiling, defeating top-10 Ducks teams on rivalry weekend. This is the rubber game for the Dan Lanning-Jonathan Smith rivalry, which is currently tied 1-1.

Oregon vs. Michigan State: What you need to know

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel is on track to challenge Bo Nix's finishing record: The Oklahoma transfer has established himself well at Oregon and currently leads the nation in completion percentage (81.5%) while ranking in the top 15 nationally in several key passing categories. This strong start comes just a year after Bo Nix set a new NCAA single-season completion rate with a 77.4% completion rate, showing how efficient the Ducks have been in recent years under offensive coordinator Will Stein. And those aren't the only records Gabriel is chasing, as the sixth-grader continues to climb the career lists and threaten Case Keenum's all-time NCAA records for passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Aidan Chiles leads Michigan State's offense in his third road start: When Jonathan Smith left Oregon State for Michigan State, then-Beavers quarterback Aidan Chiles also moved to East Lansing. A promising high school prospect who saw action as a true freshman backup in 2023, Chiles took over the Spartans' starting position and was involved in both the highs and lows of the offense in 2024. Chiles has eight total touchdowns (five passing, three rushing) but also eight interceptions in five games, including three picks in a four-point loss at Boston College. If the Spartans want to pull off an upset, the offense will have to play a cleaner game than in their last road game.

Oregon riding success through improved offensive line play: While Gabriel has performed efficiently this season, the offense as a whole has fallen short of expectations in the first few weeks of the season. One reason was the inconsistent offensive line play. The group was struggling with injuries and still trying to find the right combinations of players at every position, but in the last two games it got going for the first time this year and finally started to thrive like the Oregon lines of recent years . Oregon hasn't allowed a sack in its last two games and its rushing attack has produced its two best performances of the year.

Oregon vs. Michigan State prediction, tips

After two difficult road trips to Maryland and Boston College, this will be the steepest challenge yet for a Michigan State team still in the early stages of its rebuilding process. Maybe that works in the Spartans' favor because they're battle-tested, but a cross-country trip just a short week after playing Ohio State is a brutal twist in the schedule. Oregon already has a lot of advantages on the field, so I imagine the Ducks can set their own score. Pick: Oregon -24
