Former part. 4 deputy police officers are accused of sexually abusing two women

A former Harris County deputy has been charged with two counts of sexual assault after a nearly two-year investigation.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office said Ray Alexander Thompson, 39, used his position to intimidate his victims.

Thompson is physically imposing, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 300 pounds.

“This is a man using his badge to commit his crime, and that is something we should be very afraid of,” Kimberly Smith, a Harris County district assistant, said Friday.

According to his former boss, District 4 Police Officer Mark Herman, the deputy resigned in November 2022 after just seven months on the job.

Herman, who declined a request from KPRC 2 Investigates for an on-camera interview Friday, said his office launched an internal affairs investigation after another law enforcement agency told him the deputy was suspected of sexual assault.

The first sexual assault occurred in October 2022. The 18-year-old female victim, who delayed reporting the incident, said Thompson was in uniform. Thompson had an additional job in the area.

The second victim was a single mother with a young child who encountered Thompson.

According to Smith, this woman woke up in the motel room not knowing what had happened. However, she reported the incident immediately. Smith said Friday that the second case contained DNA evidence.

According to Smith, no sexual assault occurred while Thompson was on duty.

“The allegations are very serious, but we believe they are false and look forward to fighting this case in court. “We have known about this investigation for approximately two years,” said David Kiatta, Thompson's defense attorney.

On Friday, Thompson was released after posting $50,000 bail. He has a court date in December.

“We believe there are not just two, but multiple women who may have been victimized by this defendant. So please, if you recognize him, if you know anything, please come forward,” Smith said.
