Australian woman is accused of killing and dismembering her husband in a “bizarre” murder case

A Sydney woman has been charged with the murder and dismemberment of her husband, 18 months after he was last seen. Police described the case as one of the most “bizarre” cases they have ever faced.

Police deemed the man's disappearance “suspicious” and, following an extensive investigation by a special homicide squad, arrested a 53-year-old woman, Nirmeen Noufl – the wife of missing man Mamdouh Noufl – on Thursday, New South Wales police said.

Police officers were initially called to a home in Greenacre, Sydney, in June last year to investigate the case of a 62-year-old man who had not been seen since May 2023.

Investigators allege the woman killed her husband before dismembering his body with knives and a chainsaw and disposing of the remains in neighborhood dumpsters.

“The murder is brutal, but also macabre and bizarre. The manner, manner and disposal of the body,” said homicide detective Danny Doherty Sydney morning messenger.

Detectives arrested her at a Bankstown hospital where she had self-admitted. At the same time, investigators, with the support of specialized officers, carried out an arrest warrant at the crime scene.

“It’s right up there with some of the most bizarre mannerisms [of death]said Mr Doherty.

No remains were discovered and Mr Doherty does not expect any to be found in the future as they have reportedly been discarded.

Police also alleged that Noufl accessed her husband's bank accounts and social media to create a “deception” suggesting he was still alive. This deception ended when he was officially reported missing in July.

“Friends of his family were worried about his whereabouts – they thought he was traveling abroad but he couldn't be contacted. His family in Egypt couldn’t find him either,” Mr Doherty said.

Further investigations are underway.

Police allege the woman had “a lot of unexplained wealth.”

They claim that the couple's home, where they lived together for ten years, was “extensively cleaned up” and “the flooring was re-laid”.

“We will argue in court that she is solely responsible for his murder, dismemberment and disposal,” Mr Doherty said.

“[She benefited] financial and [obtained] “A significant benefit from the properties sold,” he added.

The couple has eight children.

“I'm very sorry [Mr Noufl]”I'm really shocked… I can't believe he ended up like this,” a neighbor told ABC News.

The 53-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear in court again on December 11.
