Drug lord El Chapo's lawyer Mariel Colon returns to her first love, singing

In a black SUV with tinted windows, lawyer Mariel Colon rolls up to the gates of a remote mansion before strolling past a security guard alongside Emma Coronel, the wife of notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Wearing suits and sunglasses, the two enter a dimly lit room full of smartly dressed men smoking cigars.

All to the sound of trumpets.

The scene is from “La Senora,” the latest music video from Colon, who worked as a defense attorney for Guzman for several years while he was being tried in a U.S. court.

Now, in a time when regional Mexican music becomes a global phenomenon, the 31-year-old uses her connection with the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, an organized crime syndicate, to launch her music career under the stage name Mariel La Abogada (Mariel, the Lawyer).

“La Senora” is a tribute to Guzman’s wife, who was released from prison in 2023 and is struggling to find work. It paved the way for the two to recently model together during Milan Fashion Week, which caused a stir in Italy and beyond.
