Trio faces charges of burglary and theft of weapons in Harrison Twp. home

Steven Schroyer, 49, was charged with one count of aggravated burglary, two counts of safe-cracking, three counts of complicity in grand larceny and one count of possession of a firearm while under disability.

Steve McCubbins, 49, was charged with aiding and abetting aggravated burglary.

All three men are currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $75,000 bonds and are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Tuesday.

The allegations stem from incidents on September 23rd and 24th.

On the 23rd, Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported burglary at a home in the 5500 block of Brantford Road in Harrison Twp. The homeowner said several firearms were stolen.

The next day, officers were called to the residence again, this time for a shooting.

According to the sheriff's office, the homeowner said he confronted two people who had re-entered the home and ultimately shot one of the suspects.

Officers later arrested three people, later identified as Knight, Schroyer and McCubbins.

According to an affidavit filed in Vandalia Municipal Court, Schroyer was arrested in the area of ​​the home with a gunshot wound to the arm. Paramedics took him to the hospital, the sheriff's office said. McCubbins was found and arrested at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 1161 Bartley Road.

In interviews, investigators said Schroyer admitted to going to the house with the other two men to get “scrap metal.” McCubbins admitted to looking for the other two as they broke into the home, and Knight admitted to breaking into the home at certain times and taking items, according to the affidavit.

A search of Knight's home revealed several firearms, which Knight said had been taken from the home, the affidavit said.

The sheriff's office said in Trotwood and Jefferson Twp. Search warrants were served and a vehicle related to the theft and several of the stolen weapons were recovered.
