Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Premier League – live | Premier League

Important events

88 mins: Chalobah is replaced by Kamada.

share

86 mins: Gakpo dribbles down the left side and penetrates the infield. He looks for the top right corner. High and wide. The tension in Selhurst is palpable. Both teams live on the edge.

share

84 mins: Mateta grabs a loose ball in midfield and drives Palace forward. He pushes Eze in on the left. Eze opens his body in the hope of directing a shot down the right… but he only manages to hammer the ball into the grateful chest of Jaroš, making his first notable save as a Liverpool goalkeeper.

share

83 mins: Liverpool take a little offense out of the situation by fumbling on a couple of restarts. Professionalism in action. “If Alisson's injury problems continue, he could be shown the door next summer instead of Kelleher,” spits Patrick Crumlish.

share

81 mins: Palace are now pushing Liverpool back and hoping to increase the pressure on the debutant keeper. Lerma releases this pressure and shoots an absurd long-range shot into the stands.

share

79 mins: Jaroš's first act is to watch a Hughes half-volley fly inches past the top right corner. Meanwhile, Robertson comes on for Tsimikas.

share

78 mins: Alisson limps away sadly. For a goalkeeper, he doesn't even come close to some injuries. He will be replaced by… Vítězslav Jaroš, as usual substitute Caoimhín Kelleher is himself absent today. Jaroš, a 23-year-old Czech international, makes his Liverpool debut.

share

77 mins: Alexander-Arnold passes back. Alisson shoots a strange free-kick wide from his left post, and it soon becomes clear why, as the goalkeeper immediately falls to the ground, clutching his thigh muscles. He hits the ground in frustration.

share

75 minutes: Nketiah is cautioned for climbing on Gakpo's back. Suddenly this game picked up some momentum. There's a fair chance we won't end up with 22 players.

share

74 mins: Tsimikas fouls Sarr on the right side. Sarr waves an imaginary yellow card and receives one himself. Nothing comes of the resulting free kick, but the Selhurst crowd is now in trouble. Lots of noise as Palace finally start to get going.

share

73 mins: Hughes is cautioned for attacking Jones from behind. Meanwhile, clearer replays of the Guehi penalty show Van Dijk pulling the defender's arm away. You saw them given.

share

71 mins: Salah will be replaced by Diaz.

share

70 minutes: After the standard situation, Chalobah hits backwards towards the goal. Cute. Alisson hits clearly. Guehi believes he is being held by Van Dijk, but that is not enough. Another corner that results in Lerma Tsimikas turning while his opponent was in the air. Lerma is booked.

share

69 mins: A weakening Liverpool defense allows Mateta to push through the middle. He goes to Eze on his left. Eze shoots into the top right corner. Alisson has to move out of the way after a corner.

share

68 mins: Alexander-Arnold moves inwards from the right and tries a curler to the top left. Miles high and wide. Both teams are drifting away a bit here.

share

66 mins: Szoboszlai shoots a long-range shot straight at Henderson, who wins the ball. For all of Liverpool's dominance, they didn't give the Palace keeper too much to work with. Anyway, speaking of TAXING THE RICH… “I'm not sure I qualify as rich,” begins Gregory S. Crawford, Professor of Applied Microeconomics at the University of Zurich, “but probably yes, as everyone should, who lives in Switzerland… but it's remarkable how.” So many of society's problems could be solved simply by taxing the rich (more like wealth, but six out of one…). My professional opinion and all. Funny how more people don't just say that. There could even be an analogy to the takeover of the Premier League by state assets and private equity, but it is probably too much effort to draw up for a Saturday afternoon.”

share

64 mins: Gravenberch carelessly pots the ball, allowing Nketiah to shoot home from the Liverpool D flank. He fires an attempt down the right but Alisson is up to the challenge. A great shot with a fitting save.

share

62 mins: Now it's Chalobah's turn to get physical with Salah, but he overdoes it. A free kick from 30 meters away, right of center. Alexander-Arnold swings the ball towards the left corner of the six-yard box. Jota hits the ball, but sends a weak header past the left goal. He should have at least worked with Henderson. He probably should have scored. Somewhere in a parallel universe he scored a hat trick today.

share

61 mins: Hughes' first act is to wrestle with Alexander-Arnold as he dribbles into the Palace penalty area from the right. It's a risky move, but one that pays off as he gets a free kick, albeit one that is generously rewarded.

share

60 minutes: Yes, let's go. Mitchell and Wharton, the latter with a groin injury, will be replaced by Mateta and Hughes.

share

58 mins: Palace reaches the square root of nowt. TNT pundit Joe Cole just described Oliver Glasner as “lost.” Changes are underway.

share

56 mins: This time Gravenberch shoots from 25 meters, but the ball bounces off Guehi. Palace are half clear, but Van Dijk hits the ball from deep and pushes a beautiful ball into the inside right channel for Salah, who collects it and then shoots. Henderson saves from point-blank range. That would have been a beauty.

share

55 minutes: A passing movement from left to right across the Palace penalty area: Gravenberch, Gakpo, Szoboszlai, Salah, Alexander-Arnold. Too many passes, too few shots. Palace clear their lines.

share

53 mins: Mitchell is trying to emulate Paul Konchesky's fluke in the 2006 FA Cup final. Almost. His cross from the left flies over Alisson, but also hits the crossbar.

share

51 mins: Now Guehi Jota wrestles to the ground on the halfway line. No free kick and the normally calm Arne Slot takes to the sidelines. To be fair, he calms down quickly enough. On our patented Klopp-o-Meter it's about two and a half®.

share

50 minutes: Jota uses a sixpence and tries to escape Lerma. He is thrown from behind. Lerma is a bit lucky that she doesn't go into the book. It could be in a wider area.

share

48 minutes: Alexander-Arnold sends Salah into space on the right. Salah dawdles and dawdles and lets the ball out to score a goal kick. Untypically lax.

share

47 mins: Gakpo whistles a cross from the left towards Salah and races in from the opposite side. Henderson recognizes the danger and intercepts. Otherwise a quiet start to the second half. In the truest sense of the word: hardly a peep from the normally boisterous Selhurst faithful.

share

Liverpool starts the second half. They replaced Mac Allister with Szoboszlai.

Halftime entertainment. In which our man fires the opening salvo of a debate that will hopefully end with everything being nationalized and the rich being properly taxed. Keep playing!

HALF-TIME: Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool were by far the better team and should have more than a goal to show for their dominance. But Palace had a goal disallowed after just 21 seconds and showed signs of waking up towards the end of the half, giving them a platform to build on. A fascinating and potentially very entertaining second half is ahead!

45 mins +2: Sarr suddenly woke up and now shoots from the right edge of the Liverpool D to the bottom left. Alisson manages to stop with a strong hand.

45 mins +1: The first of two extra minutes of the first half passes without much fuss.

share

45 minutes: Sarr and Tsimikas fight for a ball that bounces over the inside right channel. The ball rises and hits Tsimikas on the hand, and the VAR looks at it, but it's not a penalty because the arm was in “a natural running position,” according to the latest thing invented on the spot.

share

43 mins: Mac Allister is on trial for cynically trying to stop a Palace counterattack by bringing down Eze. He failed to make any connection, but the challenge was so bold that the intention was enough.

share

42 mins: The ball is thrown from right to left across the Palace penalty area by Alexander-Arnold and Mac Allister. Tsimikas receives a powerful blow. Lacroix bravely takes the brunt and blocks.

share

41 mins: Alexander-Arnold delivers. Van Dijk hits the near post and heads over the goal. Palace counter but the rare miss ends narrowly as Mitchell's left cross dribbles unhindered to Alisson.

40 minutes: …then the pace suddenly increases again and Gakpo crosses from the left. Guehi has to concede another corner.

share

39 mins: Liverpool are currently strolling around. We're happy to sit back and see what's going on.

share

37 mins: The corner is not an event. The way Arsenal carry on is more difficult than it seems.

share

36 minutes: Jones pushes a ball down the left flank to Jota, who turns to win a corner. Alexander-Arnold slowly trots over to receive it. As he does, Richard Hirst has an answer for Gary Naylor, famous in the 27th minute: “Andersen is definitely worth just as much to the buying team.” Exhibits A and B: Fulham's position in the league and their defensive record. He brought not only his own skills, but also his leadership and organizational skills. A crucial purchase.”

share

34 mins: Gravenberch marches into the Palace penalty area from the right and rolls across to Jota, who should surely score from eight meters. But he does a terrible side footing miles far left. He tried to be too cute there. Time to pull the laces through. It should be 0-2.

share

33 mins: Jones nibbles on Guehi and receives the “one more and it’s yellow” instruction from the referee. The resulting free kick was sent wide into Liverpool's penalty area, giving Palace a corner, but nothing came of it. But the last few minutes have given the palace faithful some impetus, and the noise is increasing accordingly.
