1 dead, 2 injured in tractor accident in rural Jackson County

The Iowa State Patrol has not released the names of a person killed and two injured in a two-tractor accident Thursday evening in rural Jackson County.

According to the minimal crash report, at approximately 7:33 p.m., a 2023 International Harvester LT62F was traveling in the outside lane of southbound Highway 61 near the intersection with 196th Street. At the same time, a John Deere 5830 was traveling southbound, just south of the first vehicle, partially in the outside lane and on the western edge of the roadway.

The report states that the International Harvester struck the John Deere in the outside lane. The International Harvester entered the west ditch, overturned and came to rest in the ditch. The John Deere entered the west ditch and came to a stop upright.

The driver of the International Harvester vehicle, a 35-year-old subject, died and was transported to the Jackson County Coroner's Office, according to the report. Two other people were injured in the accident. One was taken by AirCare to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The other was transported to Finley Hospital by Maquoketa Ambulance.

The vehicles were picked up by Wenzel Family Towing. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
