Matt Rhule gives status on multiple injured Cornhuskers

Before a home game against Rutgers, Nebraska Head coach Matt Rhule shared a series of encouraging news about two injured defensive backs and linebackers Stefon Thomspon and defensive back Tommy Hill.

Both players took part in training, said Rhule. And Thompson should make the field on Saturday, with Hill not too far behind.

“I think Stefon will be available to play. I think Tommi believes he’s available to play,” Rhule said. “We'll probably bring him in for the game and he's been training all week so we'll see if he can play at the level he's capable of playing at. And I appreciate both of them, the work they did to get back on the field.”

However, Rhule didn't have much positive news about the offensive lineman Turner Corcoranwhich it will obviously be several weeks out if not longer. Corcoran injured his hamstring in Week 4.

“I don't know Turner's illness – I think originally it was like a four to six week injury, but I think that depends a lot on how things go. So I don’t know if I can even say where that would be,” Rhule said.

Rhule had stated at the beginning of the week that both Thompson and Hill would have a good chance of playing on Saturday. Neither played in Nebraska's final game. However, as the schedule begins to accelerate in the coming weeks, Rhule and Co. will welcome any defensive reinforcements with open arms.

“Stefon Thompson has a sprained ankle and ran well today. We expect him to practice tomorrow, so I will know more about that,” Rhule said Monday. “And then Tommi, you know, Tommi went out like in the NFL, like two hours before the game, practiced and just didn't feel like he could continue.

“He ran today and felt good. Therefore, I assume that Tommi will have the chance to play this week. I think that will be another, honestly probably game-time decision. The plantar fascia is the only barrier to pain, and you know, it's not like you can keep it up? I mean, I've seen guys miss a long time with that, so he's doing everything he can to play. So we’ll see.”
