A New England Patriots podcast host is backtracking after landing himself in hot water following comments that suggested there was disagreement in the team's locker room.

Evan Lazar, co-host of the Catch 22 The Patriots-produced podcast said this week that the team is ” teetering on mutiny ” as veteran backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett continues to start over rookie Drake Maye. However, playback of the podcast was deleted from YouTube and social media and the podcast's audio was edited to remove the “mutiny” comment, as noted by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Following the controversy, Lazar appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub to clarify the situation.

“I fully admit that I got a little carried away on the podcast today,” Lazar said. “The word I used – 'mutiny' – means there is no mutiny in the Patriots locker room. And like I said, I got carried away and that was my mistake. You know, that wasn’t what was going on.”

Lazar added that he still believes the Patriots players are hoping for Maye to take over the reins from Brissett sooner rather than later.

“But I think the biggest thing I'm worried about – and this is just me personally, my opinion – is how long the rest of the players in the locker room are going to sit there and eat their balls while Drake Maye is in the starting blocks “waits,” and waits for his turn,” Lazar said. “So that was just my opinion, and it came out a little stronger than I intended.”

The Patriots have lost each of their last three games and enter Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins with a record of 1-3. Brissett has thrown for 536 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while completing 60.4 percent of his passes.

If Brissett continues to struggle, there will be more and more speakers in New England demanding that Maye get some more time on the field in the future.
