Connor Zilisch talks about the terrible NASCAR accident at Talladega

18-year-old Connor Zilisch spoke about his horrific accident in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday.

While speaking with FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass after the race, Zilisch discussed the horrific accident that occurred during the Love's RV Stop 225 race. The accident was the result of a hard collision with fellow racer Nick Sanchez of Rev Racing. Both riders were in the top lane when the incident triggered the first caution of stage two, drawing other riders such as Chase Purdy and Ben Rhodes into the fray.

Zilish commented (below):

“It was a hard blow, but I expected to feel more than I did. I didn’t feel anything.”

Zilisch is currently a development driver for Trackhouse Racing and juggles commitments on multiple racing platforms. He competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Spire Motorsports, the ARCA Menards Series for Pinnacle Racing Group, as well as the Trans-Am Series and IMSA SportsCar Championship.

Looking back on the race, Zilisch noted:

“My first speedway race… I just tried to learn as much as I could while I was out there, but it ended up frustrating.”

“I still learned a lot and I’m pretty confident going into next year … competing in my first full-time Xfinity race at Daytona.”

In addition to his commitment to NASCAR, Zilisch is also preparing for an exciting return to the Trans-Am Series. Zilisch is scheduled to compete in the TA2 category at Virginia International Raceway and added:

“Of course VIR is special for me because that’s where it all started for me with Silver Hare Racing.

“I had my first test with them in 2021. Then to go there and win the TA2 race last year and win the TA race the same weekend and be the first person to sweep a weekend, that does it a special route for me.” and one that I really enjoy.
