1 dead, several injured in fiery rollover accident in Rocky Hill

ROCKY HILL, CT – Police say a woman is dead and several others are injured in a fiery rollover crash in Rocky Hill on Friday evening.

In an accident report, Connecticut State Police said the crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on southbound Interstate 91 near Exit 23. According to police, a car driven by 23-year-old Jacob Texidor of Ellington was traveling on the far left trail when it happened unexpectedly crashed into another car driven by 26-year-old Jada Upshaw of Bloomfield.

The collision caused both cars to roll, police said. As a result, Upshaw's car collided with a third car driven by a 49-year-old woman from North Haven. According to the Rocky Hill Fire Department, at least one vehicle involved in the crash was on fire when firefighters arrived.

Upshaw was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The drivers of the other cars and two passengers suffered minor injuries.

After a preliminary investigation, police arrested Texidor and charged him with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25.
