Alex Pereira will take on Khalil Rountree to retain his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight belt at the Delta Center in Utah on Sunday (IST).

For the third time this year, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira puts his title on the line in the main event of a UFC pay-per-view, taking on rising contender Khalil Rountree Jr. to close UFC 307 in Salt Lake City.

In the roughly 11 months since Pereira won the vacant title with a second-round knockout win over former champion Jiri Prochazka at Madison Square Garden last year.

The 37-year-old Brazilian made consecutive successful title defenses against former titleholder Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 and a second stoppage against Prochazka at UFC 303, bringing his win streak to four overall.

Meanwhile, Rountree Jr. arrives in Salt Lake City on a five-fight winning streak, having posted finishes in four of those contests, each more devastating and resounding than the last.

In his last appearance, the 34-year-old challenger stopped Anthony Smith in the third round, rocking him back and forth with a sharp, powerful left hand before “Lionheart” slowly fell to the canvas with Rountree Jr. standing over him.
