16-year-old arrested after Friday night shooting on Fort Wayne's south side

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says a 16-year-old has been arrested following a shooting Friday night on Fort Wayne's south side.

The department responded to reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of Warschauer Street around 5:45 p.m. and arrived at the scene of a man, identified as 23-year-old Angel Maldonado, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the 400 block of Dalman Avenue.

Maldonado received help and was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, but later died as a result of his injuries.

FWPD homicide detectives were also on site Friday evening conducting a criminal investigation.

They say a 16-year-old was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody without incident in the 400 block of Eckart Street.

The 16-year-old is currently being held at the Allen County Juvenile Center on preliminary charges of murder, aggravated murder and attempted robbery.

The FWPD Homicide Unit was assisted in this investigation by the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit, uniform officers and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
