Gas leak from abandoned chemical factory causes panic; Firefighters respond immediately | Pragativadi

Odisha Fire & Emergency Services personnel immediately responded to a report of a gas leak from an abandoned chemical factory in Chandaka Industrial Area in Bhubaneswar and deployed three fire engines to address the gas leak.


According to Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, DGP, Fire Service, Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, a bottle was found leaking sodium hypochlorite, commonly known as bleach, in an abandoned gas factory and the bottle was taken to a remote place for neutralization.

Fire department personnel used oxygen breathing masks to search the area and locate the cylinder. As a precautionary measure, a neutralizing compound – limestone mixed with water – was sprayed. The gas detector shows no concern for human life as the air standard remains within normal and safe ranges.

The operation will be conducted by DFO, Bhubaneswar and will be closely monitored by DG FS&E. Dr. Deepak Kumar, IG FS&E, will be the operations officer overseeing the operation, he said. Dr. Sarangi, DGP Fire Service.
