Cromwell couple found dead at rehabilitation center in suspected murder-suicide

CROMWELL – Cromwell Police are investigating a tragic incident at Apple Rehab on Berlin Road where an elderly couple was found deceased from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide.

At 10:58 a.m. on Oct. 4, police received multiple 911 calls regarding an active shooter at the rehabilitation center.

The responding officers quickly located the cause of the disturbance in a room and discovered 81-year-old Barbara Brandt and her husband, 82-year-old Dennis Brandt, both dead.

Authorities have confirmed the situation was isolated to Apple Rehab and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Cromwell Police Department's Detective Division, the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Unit and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are jointly conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police Chief Frederick Sifodaskalakis expressed his department's commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation and extended his condolences to the Brandts' family and friends during this difficult time.
