Quick response by fire brigade prevents disaster after gas leak in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A gas leak from a chemical factory in Chandaka Industrial Area in Bhubaneswar sparked widespread panic among local residents on Saturday evening. However, a major disaster was successfully averted thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade.

According to reports, Chandrasekharpur fire station received a distress call regarding a gas leak at Shivam Chemicals in the industrial area. Five fire brigade teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, equipped with a rescue boat, a water tanker and four fire extinguishers.

The gas that escaped was probably sodium hypochlorite. Wearing full protective gear, including oxygen masks, firefighters entered the factory and safely moved the defective cylinder to an isolated area. To neutralize the potential danger, they sprayed a mixture of limestone and water. A gas detector was also used to check air quality, which confirmed there was no threat to human life as the air remained within safe standards.

As a precautionary measure, the road between Patia and Infocity was sealed and traffic was diverted during the operation. Thanks to timely intervention, the situation was brought under control without causing any injuries or further danger.
