Man arrested after 'stowaway' incident at airport

Police have made an arrest following reports of a “stowaway” incident on board a plane.

A man reportedly boarded a flight from Manchester Airport without the correct documents, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

It happened around 7pm BST on Friday.

The incident on an EasyJet flight is not believed to be related to terrorism as nothing suspicious was found on board, a GMP spokesman said.

The BBC has contacted EasyJet for comment.

All passengers on board the flight had to disembark and their luggage was returned to them, but the flight was able to take off later, according to the BBC.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of hiding in order to be “transported on an aircraft without consent and to intentionally or recklessly cause a public nuisance”, GMP said.

He remains in police custody for questioning, police added.
