Carson Beck's draft stock remains unaffected by the three-pick trade against Bama, but NFL scouts don't see him as a Round 1 lock

Before the first half against Alabama ended Saturday, Carson Beck had already thrown multiple interceptions, something he had never done in a single game in his first two seasons as Georgia's starting quarterback.

Still – despite two more turnovers after halftime, including an interception late in the game – Beck totaled 439 yards (54% completion), three touchdowns and three interceptions during the 41-34 loss to the Crimson Tide. Maybe it was in the NFL scouts even viewed him favorably, particularly the mental resolve he showed as he recovered from the worst half of his college career.

“What he did from the first half to the second half was really impressive because given what happened to him in the first half, there aren't many guys who can overcome that,” an NFL scouting source told CBS Sports. “It is difficult. He looked a lot more relaxed in the second half. He gave his players the chance to make plays. So he kind of helped himself because you’re going to make mistakes in the NFL.”

“You’re going to have a bad neighborhood. You will have a bad half. But will you let this turn into a bad game? The snowball effect can't happen at quarterback. He has to be stopped.” At some point he managed it well and nipped the matter in the bud.

It wasn't just this one NFL scouting source either. The consensus feedback on Beck's exit from this game shared by four NFL scouting sources is essentially the same as most of last year – that he is a late first- to second-round candidate.

According to NFL scouts, this is what his prospects would have been if he had turned pro after last season. That's how it was for the most part at the start of the season. And it remains that way now.

After ending the first half against Alabama with Georgia trailing 30-7 and statistics that included a 47% completion rate, just 100 passing yards, no touchdowns and the two interceptions, Beck threw for 339 yards and three Touchdowns The Bulldogs were 20 yards away from a game-winning touchdown in the second half before their final interception with 43 seconds left.

Led by Beck, four of Georgia's final six possessions resulted in touchdowns, including a 67-yard Beck touchdown pass that gave the Bulldogs a 33-28 lead with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter. He threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone.

“Honestly, the second half was great,” an NFL scouting source said. “The first half wasn’t good. But for me that's why I don't put too much into it, because you take a really bad first half and a really good second half. It almost makes up for it. That’s me.’ He won’t play against Texas in that game. Chances are they'll play Bama again, so we'll see what he has to offer. I'm betting way too much on the kid for this game. There will be many more options.

Is he on track to become No. 1 overall? Probably not, unless opinions in the NFL world change significantly by next year's NFL Draft.

Is he even a definite first-round pick? NO.

However, the outlook for him is not nearly as bleak and bleak as many would have expected after the first half against Alabama.

“I think he’s still there (as a fringe first-round candidate),” an NFL scouting source said. “I know that's not the case, and I don't think people in this profession put so much emphasis on a game that they think, Oh man, all of a sudden he's a fourth-round pick. All of them.” Suddenly he’s a fifth-round player. If he had thrown for 450 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, he would suddenly be the number one quarterback. It's just part of the process if he goes out and plays really well against Texas and really well against Tennessee, and even if he goes out this weekend and playing really well against Auburn, I think everything works out to play a role in that.
