Veteran Bills DE fined by NFL for knee injury against Ravens in Week 4

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the NFL has fined Buffalo Bills defensive end Dawuane Smoot $8,156 for shoving Baltimore Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard in the head during the Week 4 game.

The incident occurred in the closing moments of the first quarter after a rush by Derrick Henry. Smoot and Ricard went down together during the match, with Smoot being the first to get to his feet; He pressed his knee into the full-back's helmet as he passed. A referee noticed the action and gave Smoot an unnecessary roughness penalty of 15 yards. Four plays later, the Ravens reached the end zone and took a 14-3 lead.

It was an uncharacteristic move for Smoot, who has only taken 12 defensive penalties in his now eight-year professional career. After spending his first seven seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he signed a one-year contract with the Bills in the offseason and recorded 23.5 sacks during his time in Duval County; So far this season, he has played 47 defensive snaps in two games for Buffalo, recording four tackles.
