Burlington man charged with attempted murder and assault

BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) – Burlington Police responded to a woman in need of medical attention Thursday evening.

When they arrived, police said they learned the woman had been at the Midtown Motel with her boyfriend when he attacked her multiple times with a metal rod.

Joseph Lewis was arrested Friday afternoon after police obtained a warrant and searched the motel room for evidence, police said.

According to police, Lewis was charged with attempted murder, intentional assault resulting in serious bodily injury and third-degree domestic violence.

Lewis remains behind bars pending his court appearance, police said. No date has been given at this time.
