The devils fight hard but fall prey to Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Dickinson field hockey team scored another goal Nicole Uebele to tie the game at 1-1, but host Swarthmore College added two more markers late in the third quarter to secure a 3-1 conference win at Clothier Field on Saturday night.

  • The home team scored the first two shots of the game within the first three minutes, but none of those shots bothered the DC keeper Taylor Morrow.
  • Dickinson earned three straight corners that resulted in three shots Maggie Carson, Natalie Slusser and Uebele, unfortunately Cassandra Conklin was up to the task.
  • Sarah Cooper and Katherine Kohn forced stops from Morrow in the final two minutes, keeping the game scoreless for up to a minute.

  • The Garnet controlled the frame and recorded all six shots, forcing Morrow to make five stops, while Kohn was able to fire a goal over the line at 25:53 to make it 1-0 at the break.

  • Just 91 seconds into the quarter Erin Liggio tried to get Dickinson back into the game, but her attempt went wide of the cage.
  • A penalty corner from the Red-Whites in the 35th minute led to both shots on goal Alexandra Hockwitt And Becca Woods which were disputed by Conklin.
  • However, the Devils would take advantage of their next corner opportunity, as Uebele noted Malena Malka Goldman with a pass that gave the ball back to Uebele to finish.
  • Unfortunately for Dickinson, however, Swarthmore took two more shots the remainder of the period, both of which (one a penalty) finding the back of the cage for a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth period.

  • Conklin was busy taking out both Uebele and Woods early as only two minutes had passed.
  • Morrow then came to the Devils' advantage to keep them in the game and stop Sophia Hitchingham and Hannah Ulrich.
  • Sammi Moonay asked another question to Conklin, who was once again up to the task, while Liggio missed the goal wide and helped the Garnet win.
