Huskies complete comeback in third period against Penn State

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 9 UConn women's hockey team defeated the No. 12 Penn State Nittany Lions 3-2 on Friday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.

Senior goalkeeper Tia Chan started in net for the Huskies. Chan finished the contest with 21 saves.

The game was scoreless until the first intermission, with shots favoring Penn State 7-4.

Penn State opened the scoring with 4:45 left in the second period. Stella Retrum gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead. UConn led 6-5 in the second period.

Penn State doubled its lead 56 seconds into the third period on the stick of Mya Vaslet, putting UConn behind by two goals.

Senior striker Brianna Ware kicked started the Huskies' comeback and scored their second goal of the season on the power play to make it 2-1.

Freshmen forward Claire Murdoch Six minutes before the end of the game she equalized the score to 2-2, marking her first career goal. Senior Captain Ava Rinker put Murdoch on goal with a great pass. Rinker assisted on all three of UConn's goals.

Junior striker Brooke Campbell She scored the winning goal three minutes before the end of regular time, marking her first goal of the season.
