Video shows vandals destroying Glenview family's Halloween decorations – NBC Chicago

Halloween isn't here yet, but some ghouls have appeared and are already putting a damper on the holiday.

Video obtained by NBC Chicago shows vandals destroying Halloween decorations in north suburban Glenview, including a family's collection of skeletons.

Nine-year-old Athan and his mother Lisa had to clean up the damage after their skeletal family was destroyed by a group of vandals. Surveillance video shows the group pulling up in a car, getting out and beginning to smash skeletons.

“They ripped his head off, you can see the eyes and the umbilical cord right there,” Lisa Xirafakis said. “I feel devastated, it’s just really disrespectful.”

They even came back a second night to tear apart the largest skeleton in the city.

As the family reported what happened to neighborhood groups, they learned that about a dozen others reported the same thing. Vandals had destroyed pumpkins and fall decorations and hit numerous homes.

While some residents have decided to file police reports, most just want teens and parents to learn a lesson this Halloween.

“Dozens of people responded and said the same thing happened to them that night, and that’s when I decided to take decisive action about it,” Xirafakis said. “We don’t want these kids to get in trouble just so my 9-year-old learns to be responsible and for them to do the right thing and come back and fix or fix what they broke.”

According to neighbors, Glenview police are investigating.
