Arnold man arrested Sept. 29 for assault | Police fire

A 62-year-old Arnold man was arrested after turning himself in to police the day after he allegedly attacked a 40-year-old Imperial man in an apparent traffic accident, Arnold police reported.

On September 28th around 4:45 p.m., the two men were driving south on I-55. The Imperial man, who was driving a 2021 Nissan Altima, told police the Arnold man, who was driving a 1997 Dodge 1500, swerved at him near the Butler Hill Road exit, the report said.

The Imperial man exited the highway at Richardson Road and the Arnold man followed him. When the two men arrived at the traffic light, the Imperial man thought the Arnold man had hit his car, so he got out to inspect it for damage, the report said.

The Arnold man also got out of the pickup truck he was driving. He held a hammer and allegedly began hitting the imperial man, the report said.

The Imperial man got away from the Arnold man, drove away and called the police. According to the report, the imperial man was then taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Officers were able to identify the Arnold man but were unable to locate him after the alleged assault. The Arnold man turned himself in to police on Sept. 29, the report said.

Arnold police will file second-degree assault and armed criminal action charges against the Arnold man with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
