Man killed in shooting in parking lot outside St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower

BELLFLOWER, Calif. (KABC) — A man was shot in a parking lot outside St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower Saturday morning, sparking an investigation and search for a suspect.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. in the 13600 block of Bellflower Boulevard.

According to LASD Lt. Hugo Reynaga, the victim, who was not identified, was found shot inside a white Audi that had been reported stolen in Lynwood. A woman was found in the passenger seat but was not injured, Reynaga said.

At the time of the incident, a Pop Warner football game was playing at the high school stadium next to the parking lot where the shooting occurred, authorities said.

According to investigators, the victim was there to attend his son's game. The child was not with his father at the time of the shooting.

“There were people in the parking lot when this happened, no one was injured except for the victim who was sitting in the driver's seat of the white sedan,” Reynaga said.

Authorities did not provide a description of the suspect, but witnesses reported seeing the suspect vehicle, a white sedan, fleeing the parking lot southbound on Bellflower Boulevard.

“We are looking for the driver and passenger in this suspicious vehicle that fled the scene,” Reynaga said. “From the information we were given, it was clear that the driver was not the shooter, but was apparently driving the vehicle.”

It is unclear whether the shooting was a targeted attack. Reynaga said investigators will review surveillance video from the parking lot.

“It's really unusual to be at a Pop Warner game on a Saturday morning,” Reynaga said. “We don’t know what the motive is and that’s what investigators want to find out.”

There were no arrests.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's homicide unit at 323-890-5500.
