Jack Doherty was banned from Kick after he was distracted while livestreaming a car crash

Doherty is seen using his phone just before he loses control of his McLaren.

Content creator Jack Doherty's Kick account was reportedly suspended for “endangerment” after the 20-year-old was involved in a high-speed car accident on October 5.

In a short clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), Doherty was carried through the window of his wrecked McLaren shortly after crashing into a guardrail. Onlookers rushed to the vehicle to get him out, broke the window and dragged the streamer out of the car. His cameraman Michael was trapped in the vehicle for a short time with cuts on his head, but otherwise the two were uninjured.

However, a longer excerpt of the footage told more of the story, with Doherty being accused of omitting key information about what led up to the accident.

Doherty was distracted and checking the phone before the crash

An extended clip shared by @FearedBuck shortly after Doherty posted the video shows the content creator driving his McLaren one-handed while checking his cell phone. On several occasions, Doherty took his eyes off the road – reportedly watching the chat on his livestream – before accelerating to pass another driver.

Due to the distraction, the wetness of the motorway and the speed when overtaking, Doherty lost control of the McLaren and crashed into the guardrail. This is where Doherty's clip begins, and many are accusing the streamer of intentionally omitting the beginning of the accident to save face.

According to Streams Charts, over 11,000 viewers tuned in at the time of the accident, with many immediately comparing Doherty's clip to the incident they witnessed live. “Bro we all saw you talking on the phone while driving, you almost killed yourself and your boyfriend,” one viewer said on X/Twitter.

Others were unhappy with Doherty's immediate concern for his car rather than his passenger, who was left dazed and bleeding from the impact of the crash. “I would call him your friend, but the way you completely ignored him and were more worried about the car, I don't know if you consider him a friend or not.”

Both were treated at a local hospital after the accident. The McLaren, which Doherty says is worth over $200,000, was purchased in late 2023 and was totaled due to the accident.

Doherty cops ban kick over crash as streamers criticize his 'stupidity'

Hours after the accident, Doherty's kick channel was switched off from the platform. It is believed he received the ban for “endangerment”, with the channel redirected to a generic 404 page.

A subsection of Kick's Community Guidelines titled “Legality” may explain why Doherty's account was deleted. Streamers on the platform are advised to avoid disruptions and pay attention to security while streaming.

Kick has not yet confirmed whether this is the exact reason for Doherty's ban. Esports.gg reached out to Kick but did not receive a response at the time of publishing this article.

Many top streamers were disgusted when they saw the full clip. “I’m not a fan of cancel culture, but this kid needs to be banned from every platform possible.” [a] the bare minimum,” Nadeshot said, adding that he believes Doherty “deserves a prison sentence.”

“If there was an Olympics for garbage people, that little idiot would be Michael Phelps,” Nickmercs added.

After the trip to the hospital, Doherty went quiet on social media. It's not clear if his Kick ban is permanent, but Kick co-owner Adin Ross said that after seeing the accident, Doherty would have to “pay $300,000” to have the ban lifted from the platform or else he will he is “suspended indefinitely.”
