Farmer is convicted after confessing to killing an acquaintance

Elroy Withrite, also known as “Eddie,” is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15 after pleading guilty to killing Andrew Drakes on June 8, 2019 at Farm, East Bank Essequibo. The first sentencing was scheduled for September 17 but was postponed after questions arose about Withrite's mental state. However, the court has since decided that he is suitable for sentencing.

Court records show Withrite and Drakes knew each other and both lived in Farm. On June 8, 2019, at around 5:00 p.m., the two were standing on Pump Station Street in the same village. Moments later, a scream was heard and Drakes was found lying face down in a pool of blood. Police reports confirmed that Drakes suffered multiple injuries, including wounds to the back of his head and both hands. Withrite was found at the scene with a cutlass in his hand and arrested.
