UFC 307 – Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr.: Results, Highlights, Fight Card, Winner, Full Guide

UFC 307 is in the books. As part of the promotion, two title fights with completely different action took place on Saturday evening in Salt Lake City. Alex Pereira defended his light heavyweight title with a brutal blow to Khalil Rountree Jr. that left his opponent a bloody and broken mess in the aftermath. Meanwhile, Julianna Pena regained the women's bantamweight title with a split decision win over Raquel Pennington.

Pereira started a little slow out of the gate as Rountree forced the champion to respect his strength early on. But “Poatan” was just waiting for his opportunity to attack, as he said after the fight, which allowed Rountree to gas out early and open himself up for power shots late. And that's exactly what happened when Pereira really hit the gas on lap 3 and Rountree was almost unrecognizable by lap 4 with his eye badly bruised and almost swollen shut. For Pereira it is the fifth win in a row and the fourth by knockout.

Pena, meanwhile, had to survive a late attack from Pennington. After some back-and-forth early on, including a rear naked choke attempt from Pena that seemed pretty deep, Pennington pushed forward and scored the first knockdown of her career in the fifth round. Pena managed to survive and get back to his feet, but that was one of the reasons the judges' scorecards were so close in the split decision win.

Elsewhere on the card, Mario Bautista earned a split decision victory over former featherweight champion Jose Aldo at 135 pounds. Roman Dolidze, meanwhile, picked up a victory via TKO after Kevin Holland apparently suffered a rib injury while attempting to move from his back in the first round. And Kayla Harrison seemingly secured a shot at Pena with a tough decision win over Ketlen Vieira to kick off the PPV action.
