Red team wins red-blue showcase; Bryant, love wins contests

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Men's Basketball unofficially opened the 2024-25 season with its annual Red-Blue Showcase on Friday night at McKale Center.

The evening began with the Arizona Adaptive Athletics wheelchair basketball game, which was followed by introductions by the evening's hosts, Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye and Allie Clifton. After the players' introductions, the competitions began with the three-point competition. Four wildcats took part in the competition: Carter Bryant, Anthony Dell'Orso, Liam LloydAnd Caleb Love. Dell'Orso and Love made it to the final round, with Love winning the shootout with his last shot. Love scored 17 points in the final round, Dell'Orso 16.

Following the shootout, four Wildcats competed in the dunk contest: Tobe Awaka, Jaden Bradley, Carter BryantAnd KJ Lewis. Bryant and Lewis made it to the final round of the competition, with Bryant taking the win. With his two dunks in the final round he scored 59 out of 60 points. The competition was judged by Wildcat legends Frye, Jefferson and Corey Williams.

The showcase ended with a scrimmage between the Wildcats, who split into two teams. The red team emerged victorious, outscoring the blue team 47 points to 44. The Blue team led 29-25 at halftime in the back-and-forth contest. Caleb Love led all scorers and scored a total of 19 points for the red team on the night. Anthony Dell'Orso recorded 15 points and six rebounds for the blue team, including four three-pointers. Tobe Awaka also grabbed eight rebounds for the blue team.

Next up for the Wildcats is an exhibition game against Eastern New Mexico on October 21st at the McKale Center. The first regular season game for the team is November 4th against Canisius University.
