Suspected drugs seized during traffic stop: North Olmsted Police Blotter

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio –

Suspected Drugs: I-480

An officer spotted a woman biting her nails while driving 67 mph in a 60 mph zone on I-480 near Stearns Road on Sept. 16 at 9:04 p.m.

When the driver was asked to produce her driver's license, she reached into a fanny pack and the officer discovered a clear plastic bag with green writing that he believed contained drugs. According to a police report, the woman appeared nervous.

The officer asked the woman if she had anything illegal and she initially denied having any illegal substances. However, when the officer said he discovered the suspicious bag, she said it contained ketamine, an anesthetic also used to treat depression. She said she didn't have a prescription.

Officers recovered the small plastic bag containing clear crystals. They also found another small plastic bag containing three blue squares that the woman said was “acidic,” according to the police report. According to the police report, the woman also told the officer that the pill recovered from the vehicle was Ecstasy.

According to the police report, the woman was cited for speeding. Further charges are pending the results of laboratory testing of the seized materials.

Suspected Drugs: Country Club Boulevard

An off-duty police officer attempted to stop two women suspected of shoplifting as they exited Dillard's department store at the Great Northern Mall at 2:40 p.m. on September 17th.

One of the women walked away from the officer while the second woman spoke to him. The woman refused to hand over her purse, but the officer took control of the purse after the two “wrestled,” according to a police report. The woman then left the scene. In the purse, the officer found a pair of jeans valued at $94 and a small plastic bag containing a clear crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine, according to the police report. Also in the purse was a driver's license that identified the suspect.

According to the police report, charges may be filed pending drug test results.

POV: Lorain Road

According to police, the driver of a pickup truck is charged with OVI, speeding and driving in violation of the restrictions on his license after traveling at 58 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.

An officer stopped the vehicle at 3:55 a.m. Sept. 22 on Lorain Road near Christman Drive. According to a police report, the driver's eyes were “glossy” and his speech was slurred. The driver had difficulty following instructions during a field sobriety test and then refused to take the test, resulting in his arrest.
