Khalil Rountree Jr. suffered several horrific cuts at UFC 307 and was rushed to the hospital after the fight

Khalil Rountree Jr. won't soon forget his epic fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 307 because he will be scarred by it.

Despite a valiant performance, the light heavyweight title challenger came no further after his night ended with a devastating fourth-round knockout loss as Pereira's championship reign continued. After the fight, Rountree was transported to a local hospital in Salt Lake City as a precaution. This included stitching up several gruesome cuts he sustained during the fight.

UFC CEO Dana White posted a backstage photo of Rountree showing all the cuts and bruises from the fight against Pereira.

Although the result didn't go his way, Rountree showed plenty of heart as he gave Pereira all he could handle early in the fight. Over time, however, Pereira gained control with pinpoint punches and a jab that caused extensive damage to Rountree's face.

By the time the fourth round began, Rountree's face was a mess and so much blood was flowing from the wounds that his entire face and chest were covered.

Still, Rountree got closer and closer until Pereira finally attacked him with two body shots and a final uppercut, ending his night. He didn't take the win, but White praised Rountree for his performance.

“He wasn’t afraid from the first round,” White said. “Khalil Rountree went in there and started going when the bell rang. No fear, no nervousness, no nervousness. Maybe he was nervous and nervous, but if so, he didn't show it.

“He went straight up against one of the baddest guys ever and just started mixing it up with him. It was great.”

It remains to be seen whether all of the damage was superficial or whether Rountree suffered any injuries from the fight. He will be examined by doctors in Utah before being allowed to return to Las Vegas.
