Rotary plans to burn drug abuse depictions on Dussehra, campaign launches in Ahmedgarh

To curb drug abuse among youth in the region, effigies of drugs along with those of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran were set on fire at more than 200 places in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan on the occasion of Dussehra.

Effigies symbolizing the demon of drugs have been displayed at stages where Ramayana is reenacted. The organizers of Ramlila draw attention to the causes and consequences of drug abuse by occasionally referring to the effigies on display.

Rotary District Chief Advisor Amjad Ali said senior officials of the district have decided to launch a special campaign to raise awareness about the causes and consequences of the drug menace by burning effigies of evil on the occasion of Dussehra.

“We have advised the office-bearers of all clubs belonging to the Rotary district comprising parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan to consult with the local administration and Dussehra committees about burning effigies of drug menaces as well as those of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran “to vote.” on the occasion of Dussehra,” said Amjad Ali.

He said the campaign was launched in Ahmedgarh where enthusiasts led by President Venu Gopal Sharma and Secretary Ashok Verma presented an effigy to be installed on a Ramlila stage ahead of Dussehra. DSP Rajan Sharma and Executive Magistrate Parveen Sharma chaired the opening and closing sessions of the campaign launch event.

The idea by senior officials of the Rotary International District under the leadership of District Governor Dr. is in coordination with the administration.

Appreciating the initiative of the organizers, Gagan Ajit Singh, SSP Malerkotla, said district officials in Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh have been advised to participate in the project and provide all support to spread awareness on the issue.
