Will Texas football face Oklahoma with Ewers or Manning?

  • Texas has a bye but is off to its second straight 5-0 start under coach Steve Sarkisian.
  • Texas A&M looks to end a five-game losing streak against ranked teams on Saturday against Missouri.
  • Texas is not only the No. 1 team in the country, but also the No. 1 team in the state. Who is ranked 2-5 in the Lone Star State?

The 5-0 Texas football team will return from its bye next week with the two biggest challenges on its schedule so far as it resumes the Red River Rivalry with Oklahoma on October 12th, followed by a home showdown on October 19th Georgia has won two of the last three national championships.

Here are five burning questions heading into Week 6 of the college football season:

Who will Texas start at quarterback against Oklahoma?

Quinn Ewers.

Ewers will be back. He reportedly took first team reps during the training week, which is a sure sign that he is doing well physically. It's his team and he's earned the right to drive the show.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers missed last week's game against Mississippi State but is expected to be back next week for the SEC showdown against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. If not, backup Arch Manning would make his third career start.

If anything, Ewers should be motivated to pick up where he left off before his abdominal injury, but he's also pitching to NFL organizations that may be considering him as a potential first-round pick. We know Arch Manning is capable of leading this offense, but Ewers is more experienced and gives the Longhorns the best chance to win in 2024.
