Man arrested for getting on 'wrong plane'

A flight at Manchester Airport was delayed after a man boarded the plane “incorrectly”, EasyJet said.

The BBC understands that an airport passenger was supposed to have flown on another EasyJet flight but mistakenly gained access to the flight to Milan on Friday evening.

All passengers had to disembark the aircraft as additional security checks were carried out as per standard procedure.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a man “boarded a flight without the correct documentation”.

“Additional controls”

Nothing suspicious was found on board and there was no indication that terrorism was involved.

An EasyJet spokesman said the flight “was subject to additional security checks in line with procedures due to a passenger boarding the flight incorrectly”.

“Safety is our top priority and we will now work with our ground partner at Manchester Airport to find out how he was able to board the flight.”

A GMP spokesman said last night that a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of hiding with intent to be “transported on an aircraft without consent and to intentionally or negligently cause a public nuisance”.

An EasyJet spokesman said it was “unable to provide further details during this matter”.
