Tropical Storm Milton: Maps, models and path show possible impacts on Florida

NOW. THIS MORNING ON WESH TWO. NEWS SUNRISE. WE'RE TRACKING TROPICAL STORM MILTON, WHICH COULD Develop into a major Category 3 hurricane sometime this week before making landfall here in Florida. This prompted Gov. Ron Desantis to declare a state of emergency ahead of the storm. CENTRAL FLORIDA COUNTIES NOW ON THIS LIST AND SANDBAGS IN THE SURROUNDING AREA WERE BUSY THIS WEEKEND AS PEOPLE BREAD FOR POSSIBLE IMPACT. We don't want this house to flood. Yes, to the point that we can't fix it. We take a look at the Central Florida locations opening this morning. IT'S 5:00 HERE. THANK YOU FOR JOINING. I'm also SANIKA DANGE. FIRST ALERT: METEOROLOGIST CAM TRAN AND WE'RE GOING TO CAM RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THE 5:00 NOTE WAS JUST CANCELED. WHAT DOES IT SHOW US? It shows things that are unfortunately not so favorable for the people of Florida, especially in central Florida. FIRST, IT STRENGTHENS. AND WE NOW ALSO HAVE A STRONGER HURRICANE AFTER PLACEMENT. So let's get straight to the weather graphics. THIS MORNING. So it's currently 5:00 p.m. NOW WIND SPEED OF 50 MPH. So there are signs that MILTON is getting stronger. It is moving slightly faster east at five miles per hour. THAT'S JUST A LITTLE FASTER FROM ABOUT FOUR MILES PER HOUR. So that's still pretty slow and the pressure drops to 1003 millibars. BUT THE LATEST 5:00 AM WARNING REGARDING THE PATH HAS NOW INTENSE INTO A CATEGORY ONE HURRICANE FROM TONIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING. And then look at how quickly it develops into a Category 3 hurricane by Tuesday afternoon. AND IT IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDOVER TAMPA AS A Category 3 Hurricane. THE NEWEST WAY. What I also notice is that it maintains its hurricane strength as it crosses the peninsula, even though it will likely move over central Florida. AS WE GO INTO WEDNESDAY. AND THEN IT FLOWS BACK INTO THE ATLANTIC ON THE ATLANTIC SIDE AS WE GO INTO LATE THURSDAY OR LATE WEDNESDAY INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. So these are the things to consider. It is stronger and will likely maintain its hurricane category strength as it crosses the entire peninsula on Wednesday. However, it's all damp at the moment with widespread showers and a few thunderstorms ahead of MILTON. NOT DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO MILTON HIMSELF. It is currently raining in PALM COAST AND FLAGLER BEACH, and you can currently see a wide swath of rain in Marion County. The temperatures upon waking this Sunday morning are very warm and humid. And as we take a look at your 12-hour forecast, today will be quite cloudy and cloudy, with highs of 82 degrees in the afternoon. MORE MILTON IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. SANIKA. IN ORDER. CAM. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Governor Ron Desantis declared a state of emergency in Florida before Milton's arrival. It includes 35 counties, including all nine counties in Central Florida. We have highlighted them for you on this map. The governor says he has directed emergency management and transportation officials to coordinate personnel and resources. DESANTIS SAYS HE IS ALSO TRYING TO SPEED UP CLEARANCE CLEARANCE ALONG THE GULF COAST AFTER HURRICANE HELENE. FEMA urges Floridians to prepare for the potential impacts of Milton. The agency says it stands ready to respond and will assist the state with any requests for resources. SOME ADVICE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS WEEK. FEMA SAYS LISTEN TO YOUR STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS. Check on your neighbors, especially your elderly neighbors who may need extra help. Also, stay away from flooding. FEMA is also warning that parts of Florida are already devastated after Hurricane Helene and Debby could hit Milton again. PEOPLE
